SIMPLE WAYS FOR MEMBERS TO HELP OUR CLUB
***Go to www.goodsearch.com, and download their toolbar. By specifying The Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation as your charity of choice in the appropriate place, they receive approximately one cent each and every time you use their toolbar to conduct a web search. This is relatively new and will require heavy use to make a difference. Still, itʼs a very easy thing to do, and a very worthy charity benefits; so please take the time and effort to help make a difference!
***Bring your newspapers each week to our meetings and place them in the bin near the door. Last year, with only two clubs participating for a three-week period, Northwest Kiwanis Camp earned over $1,000 by recycling newspapers. This year they are asking more clubs to participate for an on-going drive and are hoping to raise between $5,000-$6,000. Again, itʼs so easy to do, yet it can make a big difference. Our board voted last year to become a supporting club to Northwest Kiwanis Camp. In so doing, we committed to providing two members to join their board of directors (Terry Johnson and Scott Kingsbury), participating in fundraising for the camp, and participating in camp activities such as camp clean-up and providing a Thursday night dinner during one of the camp sessions. This is a pretty easy fundraiser, so please make a personal commitment to bring your papers each week.
***Save Old Spectacles. This program is active again, so whenever you have prescription eyeglasses that you are no longer planning to use, please bring them to a meeting and put them in the SOS box. We then forward them to an organization that works to provide eye care in developing countries. Tell your friends and neighbors as well!
***Save those pink tops from your Yoplait Yogurt and bring them every Wednesday. One of our Key Club students is saving these to benefit Breast Cancer research. She is very determined to collect as many as possible. Since you were probably saving them anyway, please bring them to the meetings. I’ll turn them in each Tuesday to the PHS Key Club member, and she will mail them. This drive continues until December 31, 2008.
