| | 2009/10 Governors Project Project K-9 Project Guidelines 1. HAVE FUN WITH THIS PROJECT! 2. Project can be done at the Club or Division level. 3. Complete a Service Project that provides at least one hour of service per member; or donate at least $5 per member to an organization that helps dogs or uses dogs to help people (see over for project ideas). 4. Please consider sending an article to the Builder magazine at magazine@pnwkiwanis.org 5. To get a Governor’s Project patch, send information about your Project to Governor’s Project Chair Pamela Smith at 253-334-1146 or at pslt.gov32@yahoo.com 6. At the 2010 District Convention in Spokane there will be a Service Fair with a special category for the Governor’s Project. There will also be “Spot”-Lights to recognize Most Unusual, Most Monies Raised, Most Creative, Best K-Family Involvement, Etc. 7. HAVE FUN WITH THIS PROJECT!!! The purpose of this project is to touch the hearts of dogs and let them touch yours. You will be pawsitively changed. Ideas for the 2009/10 Governors Project Project K-9 ASSISTING SENIORS & THE DISABLED Sponsor Assistance Dogs - Dogs For The Disabled, Deaf, Blind, Allergies, Seizures, etc. Therapy Dogs – take dogs to nursing homes to visit residents Offer Dog Boarding/ Walking services for seniors visiting the hospital. Dogs for War Vets ASSISTING CHILDREN & YOUTH 4-H Dog-Rearing Bite Prevention Education Therapy/Assistance Dogs Reading Aloud to Dogs Program for children with learning difficulties or speech impediments Read Dog-Oriented Stories to Children as part of a literary campaign COMMUNITY SERVICE Support Police K-9 Units Support Search and Rescue K-9 Units Install and Maintain Dog Bag Dispensers in Public Parks Build or Enhance an Off-Leash Park Prison Dog Project Pathways To Hope HELPING FAMILIES ENJOY DOGS Charity Dog Walk Pet Fair Promoting Care/Training Pet Food for Food Banks Costume Contest for Charity Spay Or Neuter Day/ Shots Clinic Clinic to Teaching Children About Responsible Dog Ownership Pet Food or Medications for Low Income Seniors/Families “Petpalooza Day” Event In Your Community. Day Of Pet Run Or Walk , Best Costume, Meet YourNeighbors Pet, Dog Food Booths, People Food Booths, Info Booths, Pet Washing Stations, Etc. Start A Community Supper In Your Community For Low Income Families And Or Seniors For ThemAnd Their Pets New Pet Owner Clinic On Pet Safety, Grooming, Feeding, Walking and Car Safety HELP DOGS IN NEED Walking Dogs at Human Shelter/SPCA/ASPCA Pet Adopt-a-Thon Provide support for SPCA/ASPCA, Humane Shelters, or other agencies involved in rescuing dogs Hold a Doggie Bag Day (similar to Skip a Meal Program), donating what you would normally pay foryour meeting’s meal to the SPCA/ASPCA or other worthy agency. Foster A Dog Pass a Doggie Bowl each meeting and at the end of the year donate proceeds to the SPCA/ASPCA.
